Ford Prefect is from a small planet somewhere in the vicinity of Betelgeuse. He is a field researcher for the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and Arthur Dent's best friend. Hitching a ride with some teasers, he came to Earth for a week to research the new edition of the Guide, and ended up getting stuck for fifteen years.
He shares three of the same mothers as Zaphod Beeblebrox. Also, he has considerable difficulty understanding why humans tend to continually state the obvious, such as "It's a nice day", or "You're very tall", or "So this is it. We're all going to die."
He sent off a new entry on Earth to the Guide's editors shortly before the destruction of the Earth, but after it was edited, the entry consisted of only two words: "Mostly Harmless."
The character of Ford Prefect was played by David Dixon in the TV series, and is played by Mos Def in the 2005 big budget Disney movie, "The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy". |
