DVD Decrypter, version 3.5.4.0

Scroll down for DVD Decrypter download links and more.

The one and only "DVD Decrypter" is no more, due to unfortunate (and blatantly illegal) issues. It's the same concept as the 321 Studios case... In this case, the creator of DVD Decrypter was presured into backing down. In the 321 Studios case, some ultra-conservative judge who doesn't deserve their seat on the bench was tricked, bribed, duped, conned, or otherwise coerced into believing that DVDXCopy (and the othr related products in the 321 Studios line) was promoting illegal activity instead of the truth of the matter, which is that it, in fact, protects the right of consumers to make an archival backup copy of any electronic media that they legally purchase, a right which has LONG SINCE been established (and reaffirmed) by the United States Supreme Court and many other countries' similar high courts.

But even with the current situation, remember that there's not to fear... Suuuuuuuper protester is here! What's been going on lately is wrong, and I, for one, am not going to stand for it any longer. The infamous DMCA and similar laws around the world are unenforceable in their current state, as they blatantly deny rights already granted to consumers, namely the right to make a legitimate archival backup of legally purchased electronic media. Just because Hollywood is trying to use contradictory laws to support their position doesn't make them right. Their DMCA argument, for example, consists of the position that although consumers have the right to make an archival backup, the tools to do so should be illegal. The whole argument is complete nonsense. It's exactly like arguing that Xerox machines are legal, but paper should be illegal so that nobody can reproduce copyrighted material. Give me a break. Just because Hollywood manages to whine their way into the minds of essentially hand-picked, sympathetic, ultra-conservative judges... doesn't make it any more right for them than anyone else who tries to beat the system by throwing money at it.

» What is this DVD Decrypter page for?

This page/mini-site is presented to you free of charge in protest of the recent unhappy actions taken against DVD Decrypter's author, Lightning UK!, the owner of www.dvddecrypter.com and, of course, the DVD Decrypter program itself.

This site is NOT affiliated with DVD Decrypter, dvddecrypter.com, or Lightning UK! in any way, shape, or form. I'm not trying to get the poor guy in more trouble than he's already dealing with. He recently made a public formal announcement about the current goings-on, and expressely disassociated himself with any further dealings with DVD Decrypter, etc., and told everyone not to even email him about it, etc. In short, he's trying to put as much distance between himself and DVD Decrypter as possible. Please respect his wishes and do not email him, even with messages of support, as he is understandably concerned that even such innocent messages might be misconstrued, and given his current legal situation, I can't say that I blame him.

» Is it legal to copy DVDs?

Despite what Hollywood would have you believe, the simple fact is that making an archival backup with a decrypter tool of any electronic media that you legally purchase is, in fact, completely legal. DVD Decrypter, like many other programs, is completely legal to use to make legitimate backups of your DVDs. (Using DVD Decrypter or any other program to copy a rented DVD is still illegal for obvious reasons.)

» Then why is DVD Decrypter gone?
The DVD Decrypter website (dvddecrypter.com) was shut down because the entertainment industry, in particular one organization that has been so far unnamed (most likely the MPAA) threatened the creator, Lightning UK!, with all sorts of unhappy legal problems if he didn't comply. Since he is not able to hire fancy high-priced attorneys, he felt that he had no choice but to give in to the demans of the bullying organization.

» Notice:

This page/mini-site has been brought to you by a concerned citizen, who, quite frankly, is getting sick and tired of the whole thing. If making an archival backup copy is legal, then REASONABLE COMMON SENSE dictates that the tools to perform such a task must therefore also be legal. I mean, "Duuuuh..." It's a no-brainer.

As stated elsewhere on this page/mini-site, this site is NOT affiliated with DVD Decrypter, dvddecrypter.com, or Lightning UK! in any way, shape, or form. If you have a problem with this page/mini-site, don't hassle him about it. He doesn't have a damn thing to do with it.
